The victories of the Syrian army in Idlib were fixed in international level during the negotiations in Moscow. Vladimir Putin demonstrated that the Russian position for a settlement in Syria is very strong  and the warlike statements of Turkish politicians and the noises of  media are just an informational war and can not affect the situation.

The two parties approached the negotiations with different baggage of “arguments”.

Turkey’s position was weak: the Russian military convicted the Turks of supporting terrorist groups by launching an invasion in Idlib, Turkey was unable to change the situation on the ground, and the Turkish drones, which were previously able to paralyze the actions of the SAA , began to be shoot down one after the other by the Syrian air Defense. The Turkish military continued to die in Idlib, and the only excuse for the invasion that Recep Tayyip Erdogan hold was the problem with Syrian refugees who were trying to leave the war zone and flee to Turkey.

The Turkish delegation during the talks was clearly not in good condition: photos spread in social networks show the confusion of the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu: While he was greeting  his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, he shaked the hand of  Erdogan! And Erdogan also, as if he had lost his mind , while he was shaking hands with the Russian side, he also shaked hands with his own Foreign Minister!

The Russian side did not forget to a answer  to the turkish statements that “Turkey fought with Russia 16 times and is ready to fight again” by a symbolic way:😎

A painting on the wall of the hall of the russian turkish meeting represented the Empress Catherine the Great, whose commanders had twice defeated the Turks. Ekaterini the Great, “was present” on the masterpiece above the two presidents there was a scene of her crossing the Balkans.

Also a statue of Catherine the Great who defeated the Ottomans in 1768-74 and 1787-92 and who annexed Crimea in 1783, decorated the same room.
Another Bronze sculpture represented Russian soldiers who defeated the Turkey in Bulgaria in 1877-1878!

The negotiations at the highest level lasted more than six hours and were obviously very tense. Their outcome was an additional stabilization protocol in Idlib, consisting of three points:

  1. The Syrian Arab army, the Turkish army and Turkish-controlled armed groups must cease all hostilities from 01.01 March 6, while remaining in their current positions.
  2. Russia and Turkey, as guarantors of the ceasefire, will create a “security corridor” within 6 km south and north of the M4 highway, the parameters of this corridor will be determined during consultations on the military line within seven days.

  3. Starting March 15, the Russian and Turkish military will begin joint patrols along the M4 highway from Turunba, which is located near Saraqib, to the village of Ain al-Havr in northern Latakia, on the border with Idlib.
The fighting in Idlib continued until the official ceasefire: the Syrian army “last” attacked the positions of militants in the Al-Ghab valley in Hama and the Jabal al-Zawiya hills.

The Turkish military again “accidentally” appeared among the militants: the Turkish Ministry of Defense officially recognized the death of two servicemen, declaring a “powerful retaliatory strike” on the positions of the Syrian troops.

At 0.10 Moscow time, the shelling ceased

The night in Idlib passed without incident, information about this was confirmed by the Russian military commissars.

In the morning, the jihadists of “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” again attacked the positions of the SAA in the village of Dadih, spreading the photos the attack and attack on social networks.

HTS terrorists have shown that they reject the ceasefire – now the Syrian forces have reason to continue the military operation “Dawn in Idlib”, focusing on radical jihadists and not delivering blows to pro-Turkish armistice groups.

It is assumed that militants from pro-Turkish groups within the framework of the agreements will gradually withdraw to the north of Syria, to Afrin and the “security zone” in the provinces of Raqqa and Hasakah. The so called  “Syrian National Army”, which Turkey controls and supplies, will be able to begin a new phase of the operation against Kurds there.

Erdogan’s loud promises to “free” the encircled Turkish observation posts in Idlib and Hama turned out to be nothing: the fate of the observation posts should be decided within seven days along with the coordination of the humanitarian corridor around the M4 highway.

The results achieved at the talks in Moscow can be confidently called President Putin’s diplomatic victory – but his Turkish counterpart will have to withstand a new flurry of public discontent, since Turkey’s huge human and reputation losses in Idlib turned out to be a zero result.
